The first political report at the inaugural conference of the Africa Left Networking Forum (ALNEF) back in August 16, 2008 was titled, "Completing the Democratic Revolution in our Continent"
In his address on behalf of the host, the SACP General Secretary, Cde Blade Nzimande emphasised the centrality of mass mobilisation and participation to build a progressive developmental agenda in the African continent and that "genuine development of the continent of Africa is impossible without the people's participation in the transformation of their own conditions".
This brief remark underpinned a declaration calling for the establishment of a Left Network involving all progressive forces. The network would meet annually to share ideas of and build working class ideology of Marxist-Leninist Parties in Africa. The forum's main objective will thus be to establish a viable left, socialist and communist presence, with grassroots organisation and leadership across the African continent.
The declaration was adopted on the 18 August 2008 in Johannesburg, South Africa
